Here’s what’s NEWS:

1. IN REVIEW: 2006 was yet another combination of amazing opportunities that enabled me to travel over 160,000 miles to 48 cities in 8 countries in Asia, Europe, North America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand.  In the Grace of God, I ministered in multiple events for 32 churches, 9 ‘Sy  Seminars’, 9 major conferences, 5 missions training schools and 7 colleges or universities (including  Simpson  University in California, Palm Beach Atlantic in Florida, North Central in Minneapolis, and again at The King’s College in the Empire State Building, New York City).  Youth With A Mission has presented me with opportunities to invest in young adults for many years, and 2006 was no exception with DTS and School of Frontier Missions and School of Performing Arts opportunities, as well as Campus Crusade training events in New York City.  The opportunities to serve God’s family cross culturally and trans-denominationally is always a privilege and adds to my learning. Of course, equally satisfying is the chance to keep connected with dear friends and colleagues across the globe, many of whom I’ve known and shared wonderful  adventures, for a decade—or two!

My final travel-related event  for  2006 was  visiting  the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp, during my last trip of the year. Auschwitz is near the beautiful, ancient cultural center of Krakow Poland, where I was conducting a leadership training event in early December.  Every human should be required to walk through Auschwitz,  this meticulously preserved, and very somber site where so many perished—and terribly--during the methodical cruelty of the Nazi regime. Visitors could not fail to be affected—many would weep. Of all the places I’ve traveled over the years, Auschwitz was among the most significant, and  dreadful.  I couldn’t help but think of  the gathering storm that threatens our own season in History—and the need to ‘work while it is yet day, for the night will fall when no man shall work’, said Jesus. That’s why every trip,  and open door or open heart is so important—for who, but God, knows what tomorrow will bring into our lives or for our civilization!  That’s also why I so appreciate  investing in the next generation,  and have been thrilled with their receptiveness to God and insights from my own experience.

2. AND NOW for 2007:  Another year of  opportunities is scheduled, and Lord willing, will be realized. If you’d like to review a PARTIAL listing of upcoming events for 2007, visit the ‘Speaking/places sy speaks’ page.   Meanwhile:

·         MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES include my participation as a co-host for the new TV show: ‘Pure Passion’ which began taping in Nashville in 2006.  Produced by Mastering Life Ministries and hosted by David Kyle Foster, the 30 minute program features guest interviews, resources spots, and teaching insights. The program is now airing internationally on Sky Angel, Christian Television Network, Cornerstone Television Network, The Miracle Channel Network (Canada) and the National Religious Broadcasters.  Pure Passion has also been picked up by the Russian Christian TV Network, CNL. The program addresses a variety of concerns related to struggles with sexuality. Additional guest co-hosts include Christine Sneeringer and Alan Chambers.

·         MORE MESSAGES:  In addition to our already existing products, we are working  on a series of messages from church events that you wont find in my Lessons Learned Series. I trust these items, when available, will prove of blessing and encouragement.   MESSAGE TITLES will include:

·         Keeping Clean in My Dirty World

·         Four Things I Learned About God

·         Ways We Wreck Relationships

·         PERSONALLY: My wife and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in 2007…and our daughter is now 21 and lives 2000 miles away…she is brave and doing well… we are happy for her, and are discovering a new spin on life now that our ‘nest’ is empty!  My dad continues his recovery from a stroke—he’s quite a trouper. We are grateful for your prayers on his behalf!  His health concerns resulted in our family spending the Christmas holidays in the hospital—which put things in a new perspective, as mortality and frailty always do.

·         FINALLY: As I begin my 27th year of full time ministry, I want to especially thank so many who have remembered my family and I in your thoughts and PRAYERS!  I do not take health, safety,  favor and opportunity for granted—I believe your prayers have helped protect and  pave the way— THANK YOU!!!  I must also thank the many people who have included me in their events, churches and organizations, and who have worked so hard, often behind the scenes to plan and organize the many events in which I participate!

All these items mentioned are not about me and all my busy running around. It’s all about GOD working in and through people. That’s really all that matters…not the travel or the various events, but the whole point such efforts reflect: God drawing people to Himself.  Will you draw nearer to Him in 2007? That’s my need--and my prayer for you too!

Very gratefully,
Sy
SO DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF THE TRAVEL?

I love 'why' I go places, perhaps more than the travel itself, although I still do love travel. I grew up in a family that valued travel and foreign cultures & world history. When I was a little boy, I didn't know what I wanted to do in life, but I loved airplanes... which is a good thing since I basically commute to work in them, logging an average of at least 100,000 miles annually for about 15 years of my 20 years of full time ministry. This translates to about 4 to 5... sometimes 6 continents per year. It's been a great education. My wife and daughter have also traveled a lot with me over the years. It makes you flexible. Fortunately, my wife grew up in a military family that relocated every 3 years making her an understanding partner in our unusual lifestyle. An added bonus, is that many of the places I travel to, I've been to before. I have friendships established with great people and that makes me feel much more at home. I've also met some fantastic cabin crew, many whom I see from time to time so even getting there can be a much nicer experience.
